April 15, 2009

Publishers: Square Enix, Ubisoft (Australia)

Devellopers: Square Enix, Jupiter

Platform: Nintendo DS

Genre: JRPG

Release: April 22nd 2008

When it comes to Square Enix, they usually stay with safe bets by making new games from there franchises or making remakes but this time, they took a risk and they ended up making one of the best DS games out there.

Story: You play as Neku, 15 year old grafiti fan who’s just been hit with amnesia. But to make it worse, he finds out he has 7 days to complete missions, or he’ll be erased. As he escapes from the random monsters attacking him, also named “noises” he runs into Shiki and they form a pact, defeat the noise, and now they must find a way to survive. The story is defenetly the strong point of TWEWY, being completly original and being able to make you  want to keep going to find out what will happen.

10/10

Gameplay: If the story is unique, why not make the gameplay unique as well? The battle systeme makes great use of both DS screens. You play as Neku on the bottom screen, controled by the stylus as movement, while your partner is on the top screen and you control your partner with the d-pad. The battle systeme will be hard to understand at first but luckly, you can choose to have your partner control by the computer instead, wich can make things easier to learn. On the downside, you won’t be able to change difficulty, or even retry battles until you play far enough in the game wich might be frustrating, but once you get to that point (wich isnt that far in the game), those option won’t matter cause you’ll be fine in battle without them.

9/10

Presentation: As you can see from the box art, you can tell that the game’s character design and presentation is, well, unique (to Kingdom Heart games anyways) but it’s still Square’s signiature character style and it works perfectly in this game. TWEWY is set in modern Shibuya, Japan, wich is actually pretty accurate to the real thing. Also the music is conentrate around hip-hop, wich again, fits really well with the game, and it’s actually really good. But like I mentioned earlier, the art style for the game is incredible and even though it’s been used in past games, it found a way to fit perfectly well with the game.

10/10

To finish this review, TWEWY is one of the best games on the DS. The story is incredible, the gameplay is unique, and the presentation is top notch. Game as unique as TWEWY don’t come often, but when they do, it’s an opportunity  you can’t pass up. Square took a risk with TWEWY, especially localizing  it to NA and EU, but it was well worth it cause Square released one of there best games in years, and one of the best games the DS ever had.

Final score: 10/10

Top 5 Best GameCube games EXCLUSIVE!

March 24, 2009

The Nintendo GameCube was a Nintendo console in the 6th generation. Thought not as sucsessful as the PS2 or the Xbox, it still had some of the best games of there generation.

#5   Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

normal_gcn_metroid_prime_2_echoes_ss01

Metroid was one of the best shooters on the gamecube and surpassed its predecesor with a better presentation and adding multiplayer action wich wasn’t in Metroid Prime.

#4   Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

fire-emblem-path-of-radiance325112This was the first game of the series on a Nintendo console in North America and it’s one of the best strategy game on the GameCube. The wild suscess to Fire emblem is thanks to the introduction of 2 Fire emblem characters in the game Super Smash Bros. Melee.

#3   Super Smash Bros. Melee

supersmashbroswallpaper1280x960

This game isn’t only one of the best games on the GameCube, but also one of the best fighting game ever made. Who knew that the concept of Nintendo characters fighting against each other would make out for an incredible game. The game included 21 Nintendo characters including Mario, Luigi, Link, Pikachu and the list goes on.

#2 Legend of Zelda : Wind Waker

thelegendofzelda-thewindwaker_012

When did game was first introduced, everyone was surprised by the new direction the visuals were going. But no one really cares anymore because the game was an amazing sucsess and one of the best Zelda games ever. The game has a great story, great characters, and everything that a Zelda game should have.

#1   Tales of Symphonia

00197234-photo-tales-of-symphonia

Not only is it the best GameCube game, it’s also my number 1 game of all time! Tales of Symphonia is an incredably deep game. It has an original, emotional story that will make you emersed into the game. It’s also one of the longest games available at over 60 hours witch makes it worth your money.  The battle system is similar to games like Final Fantasy and Golden Sun except your character and your allies also move and battle in real time.  Overall, it’s just an amazing game and any GameCube and Wii owners should seriously consider getting this masterpiece that is the best gamecube game.

Review – Killzone 2

March 9, 2009

928377_67440_front

Publisher: SCEE

Devellopers: Guerilla

Platform: Ps3

Genre: First Person shooter

Release: February 27th 2009

When we were first shown Killzone 2 at E3 ,  the game looked amazing. Thought the video was shown in CG, people were still skeptical about the finish product. But now, I finally have my hands at Killzone 2, and its a game like no other this year.

Story: The game’s story continues off after the two previous games but this time, you, the ISA, are doing the invading. You play as Sergeant Tomas “Sev” Sevchenko, Sev is part of the ISA Special Forces Alpha Team who are responsible for capturing the ennemy leader Scolar Visari, the leader of Helghast forces and ruler of Helghan planet. The story is nothing special but its still has some originality.

8/10

928377_20081209_screen011

Gameplay: The gameplay is what this game is all about. Killzone has a new original cover system called “sneak and peek” wich consist of covering behind and object in first person. The games shooting system is also very similar to Call of Duty 4  but it feels completely different. This makes  Killzone 2 a game very hard to get into in multiplayer but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be hooked, and good. Speaking of multiplayer, for those who don’t have online, you can easely go play skrimish with up to 15 bots. Perfect for those who want to play online, but can’t. Also the online component is called Warzone, wich allows you to play every game modes  back-to-back without going into a lobby. You can also only select one game mode for people that are picky or specific about what they want to play.

9/10

928377_20081210_screen008

Presentation:  If you thought the gameplay was amazing, then you’re up for a treat. the visuals are outstanding, pushing the PS3’s power further than any game. The enviroment is also very well detailed as it is dectrutable. The death animation is also something to behold as it is like no other game. Killzone 2’s visual surpass everything right now and it’s going to be hard to surpass this beautiful game.

10/10

928377_20081209_screen004

Obverall, althought the story may be a little weak compared to other games, the gameplay and presentation are what truly makes this game like no other. It’s not perfect, but it can definitely hold itself against other FPS of it’s kind like Call of Duty 4 and Halo. If you have a PS3 and like to play ether FPS’s or online, this is the perfect game for you.

Final score: 9/10
